I2S, the digital sound protocol that's not to be confused with I2C, is the secret sauce that allows this module to transform standard I2S digital audio input into clear and amplified analog sound. With just a few pins for data in, data out, bit clock, and left-right channel select, you can unleash the full potential of your audio devices.
Don't let its small size fool you, the Beat Beast packs a punch! This mighty mono amplifier can deliver a surprising 3.2 Watts of power into a 4-ohm impedance speaker. It operates efficiently in the range of 2.7V to 5.5VDC, making it ideal for portable and battery-powered projects. Plus, with built-in thermal and over-current protection, you can trust that it's designed for reliability.
The audio input follows the I2S standard, accepting both 3.3V and 5V logic data. The "Bridge Tied" outputs ensure a direct connection to your speaker without any need for grounding. The output utilizes a ~300KHz square wave PWM that is cleverly averaged out by the speaker coil, eliminating high frequencies that are not audible. Just remember, the output is meant to drive the speakers directly, so connecting it to another amplifier is a no-go.
But wait, there's more! With the Gain pin, you have control over the amplification. By adjusting resistors or wiring it directly, you can set the gain to 3dB, 6dB, 9dB, 12dB, or 15dB. And if you want to fine-tune your audio experience, the ShutDown/Mode pin allows you to put the chip in shutdown or customize the I2S audio channel output. You're in control of the beats!
